I just added a BANS section to an existing niche blog that I have using WP as the blogging platform. I must say that the whole BANS setup process is extremely painless. Once you have a domain name already established, you just need to do the following:
1. FTP the BANS files to your server. Since I am adding the package to an existing blog, I created a sub-directory where I will point to the BANS section, e.g. www.mydomain.com/niche-store
2. CHMOD the cont.php file to 777
3. Create a new MySQL database. Make a note of the database details, i.e. database name and user info.
4. Point your browser to the domain/directory where you transferred the files.
The longest part of this process is FTPing the files to your server. On my Verizon FIOS connection, it takes a few minutes.
Once you're done with step 4, you just have to set up your store details. Be sure to enter your EPN campaign ID or else you won't be credited with any commissions.
I found out when I was first using BANS 3.0 that it wasn't saving my EPN campaign ID as it kept defaulting to some other value. If this is happening to you, there is a patch that you need to download that includes a file named “update.php”.
You need to run this script once in order to fix this bug.
After I'm done with the basic setup, I normally do some tweaking of the CSS files and upload my own graphic header.
Here's another tip. I prefer to remove the affiliate link on the bottom of the page, you know, the one that says “Powered by ...” as it can be easily tracked as a footprint of a BANS site. You want to keep your competitors away!
